Help with the app.
braunetic answers questions about braunetic family by e-mail – personally, as a rule within one working day, in German or English. Most answers are already here.
How to reach us
Please tell us the first name of your profile and, if it is about a problem, what you last did. In the app, Family › Help & Tips › “Contact Support” opens an e-mail to this address; there is no contact form. Do not send us any passwords – not even that of an external calendar; the app has no password for signing in.
Getting started.
01
What do I need to start?
An iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 and later, and an Apple Account. Signing in runs through “Sign in with Apple”; there is no separate password for the app. The app is available in German, English, French and Spanish; it follows the language of the device.
How do I set up the family?
Open the app, sign in with Apple, choose “Set up our family”, give the family a name and enter everyone – adults and children, by first name. Children without a device of their own are planned for in the same way. After that you can invite people or get going right away.
Does everyone in the family need the app?
No. It is enough if one person plans. Whoever joins later finds their own place already prepared.
How many people fit in a family?
Up to 10 people, the owner included. Adults, children and grandparents count equally – with their own account or as a profile without an account. Whoever is removed frees up their place. Individual places cannot be bought.
Who sees what in the family – including private lists?
All members of your family, including children, see appointments, tasks, meal planning and messages. For lists, the person who creates a list decides who sees it: the whole family, only the adults, selected people or only you. A list just for you is seen by no one but you – not even the owner. Only you see your own calendars from the device. Other families see nothing; we as the operator only as far as maintenance or support requires.
How are children's profiles stored?
Like any other profile in your family: first name, the role “child”, a colour and, if you like, a profile picture – no age or date of birth. There is no separate storage for children; a child's profile belongs to the family and is visible only to its members. A child does not need an account of their own. If they use their own device, the owner invites them and they sign in with their own Apple Account. The owner can remove the profile from the family; it is deleted completely with the family.
Invitations.
02
How do I invite someone?
Under Family, select the person and choose “Send invitation”. The invitation goes through the share menu, just like you normally write. The link is valid once and for seven days.
An invitation does not work.
It is older than seven days or has already been used. Ask the owner of your family for a new one. If the family has more than 10 people (this only happens with families of the pre-release version), new invitations are only possible again once it has 10 or fewer. If the link does not open the app, the page behind the link shows how to proceed.
I have been invited – what do I do?
Open the link, sign in with Apple, confirm “Yes, that's me”. Your place in the family is already prepared; nothing is created twice.
Sign-in and devices.
03
I cannot sign in.
The app uses only “Sign in with Apple”. Check in the settings of your device under your name › Sign in with Apple whether braunetic family is listed there. If you removed the app there, simply sign in again.
I have a new or second device.
Download the app, sign in with the same Apple Account – your family is back, on iPhone and iPad alike. If you took out the subscription, choose “Restore Purchases” under Family › Subscription.
Notifications.
04
I do not get any notifications.
Turn them on in the app under Family › Notifications and allow them in the settings of your device. Notifications only come for things that others have done and that concern you – and for your own tasks.
What does a notification say?
Who did something and what it is about – never the content of a message, an appointment or a list.
Calendars and external calendars.
05
Can I see my own calendars?
Yes. Under Calendar › Calendars you can show the calendar accounts of your device next to the family plan. They stay on your device; you can take individual events into the family plan.
How do I bring the school's or the club's calendar into the family?
An adult chooses Calendar › Calendars › “Add External Calendar” and pastes the calendar link (ICS or WebCal – the address the provider offers for subscribing). In doing so, you confirm that the calendar may be shared with the whole family. After that, our service reads in the events and shows them to all members, including children. Only adults can add, hide, reload or remove external calendars; up to ten are possible per family.
How up to date are external calendars?
Our service fetches the link immediately after adding and then roughly every 30 minutes; “Refresh Now” works at any time. There is no instant transfer. Changes and cancellations in the original calendar arrive with the next fetch; the app shows when the last fetch succeeded and why one failed.
Can I change events of an external calendar in the app?
No. External calendars are only read; the app never writes back into someone else's calendar. If you change something at the provider, it comes into the app with the next fetch. What you plan yourself, you enter as a family appointment.
What does the provider of the external calendar see?
That our service fetches the link – no details about you or your family. If a sign-in is stored for the calendar, our service sends the username and password along, only to the calendar's server; “Test Connection” when adding asks once directly from your device. Nobody in the app sees the link itself; only the provider's internet name is shown. Whoever removes the calendar deletes the events read in, the link and a stored sign-in immediately.
Can I see the family calendar in Apple Calendar, Outlook or on a PC?
An adult can turn on a subscription under Calendar › Calendars. The app then shows a secret link once, which you enter in your calendar app; other apps only read the events (title, time, place – no notes, no participants, no external calendars). Whoever has the link can read the calendar – give it only to family members. “Make New Link” invalidates the old one, “Turn Off” withdraws it. Turning it off works at any time, also after the trial or without a subscription; making a new link requires the trial or a subscription.
Owner, account and deleting.
06
How do I transfer ownership?
Under Family, transfer it to another adult with app access. A family always has exactly one owner.
How do I delete my account?
In the app under Family › Delete My Account – without a family via the account symbol on the setup screen. You confirm by signing in with Apple again. Your profile stays with the family; the owner can remove it. External calendars you added are removed. If you own a family yourself, transfer ownership beforehand or delete the family. Deleting does not cancel a subscription – you cancel it separately with Apple. Without the app: write to us; we verify the request through the owner of your family or your Apple Account and delete accordingly.
How do I delete the whole family?
Owner only: Family › Delete Family. You enter the family's name and confirm with Apple. Everything of the family is deleted for all members immediately, including the photos and the external calendars. The others' accounts remain.
Can I delete a message?
Your own messages, yes: press and hold the message and choose “Delete for Everyone”. The text disappears for everyone; in its place it says “This message was deleted.” You cannot delete other people's messages.
How do I get a copy of my data?
The details of your account and your profile you save as a file in the app yourself (Family › Export My Data). The data of your whole family we provide as a file on request – write to us; we verify the request through the owner of your family or your Apple Account and reply within one month.
Subscription.
07
What does the app cost?
A new family uses braunetic family free of charge with every function for 14 days – no purchase, no subscription, no automatic charge. After that, there is a subscription through the App Store, monthly or yearly, one subscription per family with up to 10 people. The app shows the price for your country before the purchase as the App Store states it.
How does the free trial work?
You do not need to buy anything or take out a subscription for it. It begins when the family is set up and ends by itself 14 days later. All members see the end date under Family › Subscription (“Free until …”). Nothing is charged, and you do not need to cancel anything. After that, everything is kept and remains readable; to add and change things, an adult takes out a subscription. The trial exists once per family and once per account that sets up a family.
Can I subscribe during the trial?
Yes. The paid period then begins immediately with the purchase; the remaining days of the trial are not credited and not refunded. If you would rather subscribe later, you lose nothing: after the trial, everything remains readable until an adult subscribes.
Who pays in the family?
One adult takes out the subscription through their Apple Account; everyone invited and all children use the app at no cost of their own. If the family already has a subscription, the app does not offer a second one. Individual places cannot be bought.
How do I cancel?
In the settings of your Apple Account under Subscriptions, or in the app under Family › Subscription › “Manage or Cancel” – at least one day before the current period ends. The app itself cannot cancel anything; the purchase runs through Apple. You do not need to cancel the free trial.
What happens after the trial or without a subscription?
Everything is kept and remains readable. New appointments, lists and messages are only possible again with a subscription. Deleting entries, inviting and removing people, deleting the account or the family, the data export, the help, taking out a subscription, withdrawing a calendar link and removing external calendars always work – in each case as far as your role in the family allows. Data is not deleted because of an ended trial or an ended subscription.
The payment did not go through.
Then Apple retries it, and the app lets you know. Check the payment method in your Apple Account. Meanwhile the family keeps full access for up to 16 days; if the payment has not gone through by then, the family becomes read-only. Everything is kept.
What happens to my subscription if I leave my family?
There is no “Leave family” button; you leave a family when the owner removes you or disconnects your access, or when you delete your account. None of this cancels the subscription – it belongs to your Apple Account and continues until you cancel it there. The family you paid for keeps its access as long as your subscription runs and you do not take it to another family; after that it becomes read-only until an adult there takes out a subscription. In a new family you can bring your subscription along: Family › Subscription › “Restore Purchases”; the app tells you beforehand what changes and asks you. A subscription never unlocks two families at once.
New device – how do I get the subscription back?
Sign in with the same Apple Account and choose “Restore Purchases” in the app under Family › Subscription.
Reporting contents.
08
How do I report unlawful content?
Write to info@braunetic.de – in the app, Family › Help & Tips › “Report a Problem or Content” opens an e-mail to this address; there is no reporting form. Describe the content and where it is in the app, explain why it is unlawful, give your name and e-mail address if you wish, and state that you believe in good faith that your details are accurate and complete. We confirm receipt and tell you our decision. Details are in the terms of use, section 5.
Is there a point of contact for authorities?
Yes. The single point of contact under the Digital Services Act (Articles 11 and 12) for authorities and for users is info@braunetic.de, in German or English.
